Families pay extra to swim in the pool

May 28, 2008

How to avoid the Family Holiday surcharge. It is obvious that the hotel surcharges are moneyspinners for hotels, but did you know its worth $1.6 billion to the US Hotel market and is projected to climb to $1.75 billion in 2008, according to PriceWaterHouseCoopers. As Hotels and Travel operators find creative ways to make you pay more, it’s important to be informed before planning your next family hotel stay. Here are our tips to keep you ahead of game.

Watch out for
- Know which Taxes you will be paying for
- Resort Fees
- Tip surcharges
- Public Holiday loadings on Bills

Do the Sums
Work out the total amount payable before staying, this eliminates the surprise factor upon check out.
Ask the hotel about any extra fees etc upon booking, find travel sites like travelocity that provide all the hidden fees in the total cost.

Negotiate before check in
If you know your not going to use the gym, and all bells and whistles that the hotel offers, make sure that you request to have these charges removed before checking in, and make note of it on you booking file. If your not going to use it why should you pay for it, remember your only wanting to find a place for you and you family to stay at.
