Dads is a twittering on holidays
March 20, 2008
Has Dad lost plot with all this twittering or is he just documenting the trip, twittering the new online travel journal. You don’t need to have access to the internet to keep family and friends in on the loop of your travels.
What is twittering? Well basically I like to think of it has a SMS or text messaging on growth hormones. Twitter is a social media site allowing users to update their online profile with short burst messages of what they are up to.
If you don’t know how to get started ask the 5 year old, I’m sure they could guide you through the process!
Tools Required:
1. Mobile phone for sending SMS text messages, tip get a plan that has unlimited SMS built in.
2. Signup and get a twitter Account
3. Setup your twitter account to receive updates from you mobile
4. A quick read and trial on how to use twitter for travelling
Why use it for travelling.
- Allow friends and family to track your where about.
- Document little things about your trip “like hey kids look at the purple cow”
- Post a remark about how the “kids are learning to surf in Broulee”
- Little Steven has just poured chocolate milk or over mummy.
Return from the trip
Simply log into your account go to your archive section and you have a document of your trip and what you visited etc. Which is great for when you are going through the family holiday snaps to help recap the memory of where was that what was that dish I ate.
Summary: Twitter is a simple tool to use that doesn’t require to much knowing how. It’s so simple you tend to think you may be doing something wrong. If documenting your family holiday with twitter isn’t your thing, you can always refer to the classic moleskin note book.
