26,730 five star beds available in Sydney
July 11, 2008
When will Sydney hoteliers ever learn we hear the same story every time a large scale event happens like the Sydney Olympics, WorldCup Rugby, and now the World Youth Day 2008. This story really does not surprise me, so if you are family or individual looking to stay in Sydney when a major event is on, lesson 1 don’t book your room until the last minute as the hotels will drop their rates dramatically to make up for the losses that did not materialise on their books through cancellations.
It is estimated that there is approx 26,730 room cancellations across Sydney which the hotels were holding for the World Youth Day events are being released back. Now if you were smart and wanting to stay in Sydney it would be clever to jump online and look for a bargain deal, ie 5 Star hotels are now chasing the a 3 star market with with 3 star prices. Back in April it would off costed well over $300 dollars to get a room at a 5 star hotel in Sydney, now you should be able to pick up one up for around $200.
I have done a quick scan and there are lot of quality Sydney hotels with prices between $200 and $300, the only hotel which is holding high rates is the Park Hyatt Hotel Sydney with rates well over $600 maybe they have someone of higher importance staying in house!
5 Star Sydney Hotels worth checking out for 3 star prices
- The Westin Sydney
- Sofitel Wentworth Sydneys
- Sydney Harbour Marriott
- Hilton Sydney
- InterContinental Sydney
Some other IHG hotels which are also showing some good value over the week are Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour and Old Sydney Holiday Inn.
Qantas.com/hotels is offering some of the best value for booking these hotels.
Best of luck if you are pilgram wanting to stay in a 5 star hotel as the big man is looking over you with these rates. Families and business travellers you are also well looked after for the week of the 13th of July.

$600! Egads, I can’t even imagine paying that much for a bed, especially with all the other quality places to stay at being half that price. I wonder what they do for their customers that lets them charge that much…
