Bali | Indonesia

Often known as "The Island of the Gods", Bali is one of the friendliest destinations for families and an easy place for a relaxing family holiday.

Hotels and resorts are well geared to families, with free kids clubs, large family rooms and loads of family friendly facilities.  Babysitters are also cheap and easy to come by, costing just a few dollars an hour.  There also lots of villas and apartment style resorts which are a popular alternative to hotel accommodation.

Most families who holiday in Bali will stay near the beach (Kuta or Nusa Dua are very popular, but we also like Seminyak, Jimbaran Beach and Sanur which tend to be a bit quieter), but take the time to venture further afield - visit the cultural centre of Ubud to see a totally different Bali.  Surrounded by lush green hills, this town is full of artists, musicians, carvers and weavers and a great place to get a taste of some "real" Balinese culture.

Families Will Love

  • Waterbom - with seventeen different tall slides, kids will have a ball at this fantastic water park.  There's a great toddler pool with water cannons and mini slides, while older kids will love the pulse-pounding 360 degree Aqualoop and water bomb battle zone.
  • Bali Treetop - a wonderful woodland adventure park in Bedugul botanical gardens.  Tarzan swings, zipwires, aerial nets and balancing challenges make up six courses through the trees.  Suitable from kids as young as 4 years old, this will entertain kids of all ages (and their parents!) for hours.
  • Kids Clubs - most resort hotels will have their own kids clubs.  These are often excellent and very well run, and provide a great opportunity for the kids to keep busy and make new friends while Mum and Dad take a well earned break by the pool.
  • Bali Safari Marine Park - elephant rides, roller-coasters, rare animals and even a small water park and aquarium, there's something for everyone with bonus education through free education shows and trained zoologists who accompany you as you make your way through the different habitats.
  • Pirates Bay in Nusa Dua, where your kids can have dinner in a tree house or spend the day pretending to be a pirate (ahoy mateys!).  Pirate camp packages allow kids to experience activities such as treasure hunts, kite building and even zip lining.  Great place for families who want to spend a fun day together, or for kids who want to be independent pirates for the day giving their parents a break.
  • Monkey Forest - a beautiful lush forest teaming with monkeys!  For just 20,000 rupiahs (approx 2 USD), you can buy bananas and feed the monkeys just outside the sanctuary.  Walk through the forest and the monkeys will watch you pass as you follow maze-like pathways to a temple.
