Family Holiday Destinations

Boston, USA

Boston is a city of many names - home of the historical "Boston Tea Party", "Beantown", "Cradle of Modern America", and "The Walking City" to name just a few.  Many of these come from Boston's rich and important history, and this along with a friendly population has earned the city a reputation for being a destination where kids can learn a lot and also have a lot of fun!

There are plenty of things to do in Boston on a family holiday with kids. One of the top ten tourist destinations in America, Boston is bound to have something for all the family and children of all ages, with its plethora of museums, entertainment and attractions.

Got the time and energy to venture further afield?  New England is one of the most beautiful areas in America, known for it's distinct four seasons and in particular the changing leaves in Autumn.  Just a few hours drive from Boston will take you to the beautiful beaches of Cape Cod (from where you can also explore the islands of Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket), or the mountains of Vermont (wonderful family skiing in Winter!).

Families Will Love

  • Duck Tours - a great way to see and experience Boston from both land and water via these unique amphibious vehicles. Each tour has it's own "conDUCKtor" who provides an interesting, informative but also amusing running commentary, and kids will love quacking to the people they pass on the street!
  • Freedom Trail - "Boston by Little Feet" is a special tour along the Freedom Trail designed especially for children aged 6-12 years old. A free Explorers' Map is included, and children will learn about Boston's role in the American Revolution and the making of some of the historically important buildings within the city. You can even do a 5km running tour of the freedom trail.
  • Boston Children's Museum - 100 years old, this wonderful museum has been entertaining children for decades and is one of the leading childrens' museums in the world. Lots of interactive exhibits.
  • Leuralla Toy and Railway Museum - great for a rainy day, this Museum has a wonderful collection of antique toys and dolls in a 20th century mansion.  There are gardens for the kids to run around in once they get bored inside, with a model railway.
  • Faneuil Hall - full of family friendly eateries, this is a great place to take the family with lots of street entertainment and shops (upscale and novelty). Children will love the Boston Chocolate Tour and street food vendors such as the Boston Chipyard which sells chocolate chip cookies of all different kinds!
  • Fenway Park - sporty kids will love a visit to this iconic baseball ground, "America's most beloved ball park" and home to the Boston Red Sox. Take a tour of the Park, or even better, take in a baseball game!
