Visit "The Happiest Place on Earth", and one look at all the excited faces on the kids at Disneyland will tell you where this moniker has come from. Disneyland Resort is one of the ultimate theme parks of the world, located in Southern California in Anaheim, just outside of Los Angeles.
Spread over 2 enormous theme parks (Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park), there's something for every member of the family, but it is worth planning your visit beforehand to make the most of your time. Younger children will love Fantasyland and Mickey's Toontown at Disneyland Park, while older kids and teenagers will get a kick out of Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain and Star Tours at Disneyland Park and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Grizzly River Run and California Screamin' at Disney California Adventure Park.
Consider staying on-site at one of the Disney Hotels - Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. Apart from the obvious convenience and accessibility for everyone, this is a great idea particularly for families for younger children - it's easy to nip back to the hotel for a nap / rest if you want some time out from all the excitement in the middle of the day. There are however dozens of hotels within close proximity that will cater for all budgets.
Got the time and energy to venture further afield? There's loads more to see and do in the Los Angeles area. Movie buffs will love a visit to the movie sets at Universal Studios, or even taking one of the self-guided tours around Beverley Hills to check out where the movie stars live. If Disneyland has just whetted your appetite, other wonderful theme parks in California include Knott's Berry Farm (a must for Snoopy fans), Lego Land and Sea World.
