When we think of Singapore, most of us think of the city as a convenient stop-over en route to Europe or another part of Asia, not necessarily as a family holiday destination in itself.
In fact, Singapore provides an excellent taste of Asia, without some of the stresses of some other Asian cities. This clean, safe, cosmopolitan city is Asian enough to feel exciting and offer plenty of cultural experiences, while being Western enough to not feel too intimidating for families, particularly those new to Asia. With an exceptionally low crime rate, families can feel safe, while enjoying the unique colonial Asian atmosphere. With cheap taxis and an efficient metro system, the city is also small enough to easily explore with children in tow. There is also loads to do and see, with the highlight for families being Sentosa Island ("Asia's Favourite Playground"), just 15 minutes from the city centre and accessible via cable car, metro or board walk.
Got the time and energy to venture further afield? Try extending your holiday to Singapore with a visit to one of the nearby Asian destinations. Borneo is a family favourite with beautiful beaches and famous for its orang utans.
