Stockholm - Holidays with Kids

Stockholm is a very child-friendly city to visit with the family for a long weekend to longer than a week.

There are plenty of free attractions to see and do around the city, and getting around is easy peasy for families, with plenty of options from trams, trains, and ferries. However, the best way to explore Stockholm as a family is by walking.

Stockholm is one cool, hip and trendy city. It is great at blending its rich history and culture with its contemporary new pulse. There is so much to do and see, from museums to the Royal Palace, walking the cobblestone streets of the old town to relaxing and people watching by having a fika!

Families Will Love

There is so much do and see in this city a family. We have outlined a few ideas which we can recommend for your trip to Stockholm with the family.

  • Vasa Museum, if there is only one museum, this is it! See the best preserved seventeenth-century ship, which was salvaged, after lying on the ocean floor for 333 years. (Paid)
  • Royal Palace, what is unusual about this palace is the sheer size and grand architecture along with that the palace is still to this day an operating palace for the royal family. (Paid)
  • Old Town, take a stroll and walk around the old town. See if you can find the narrowest street! Enjoy some down time and have a fika with the family! (Free)
  • Abba Museum, This one is for mum and dad. The Abba Museum is fun and worth a trip down memory lane. (Paid)
  • Modern Museet, This museum has an amazing collection of modern and contemporary works by artists such as Dali, Matisse, and Picasso. (Free)
  • Globe SkyView, Take the Train to the Globe and check out the city as you glide over the world's largest globe stadium
  • Subway Artwork, explore the subway artwork across the network of city stations.
  • Eat from a food truck, An affordable and fun way to eat around the town as a family is find one of the Stockholms trendy food trucks which have a range of different food options.
  • Yasuragi Spa, okay this is not in town but its short 40min by ferry. It's a great place to stay, relax and reconnect the family. Read our review.

To get the most value out of exploring Stockholm, we would recommend purchasing a Stockholm Pass, which will give you access to over 60 attractions.

Tip: Stockholm can be expensive or affordable, if you eat and experience the city through the eyes of local it will be an affordable experience. Drinking alcoholic drinks can be pricey in cafes and bars. You could always grab a bottle of wine from the bottle shop and place in your mini bar to cool down, and enjoy a picnic in one of the local green parks. Just like a local!
