Southeast Asia is full of so many different things to see and do and it’s a great place to take a family vacation, thanks to beautiful weather, delicious food and awe-inspiring culture. Some places are more suited to little ones than others, so here are five of the best destinations in Southeast Asia to visit with children.
Bali is on a lot of travellers’ bucket lists as it is just a beautiful place full of rich culture. Ubud is a fantastic place for children as the climate is cooler than the rest of Bali, and the Balinese shows (akin to our musical theatre) are loud, bright and energetic, so they are perfect for families! If your kids are a little older, you might like to try some of the walks and hikes, to explore the local area, or travel to Jimbaran or Sanur for a beach day!
Head to Kratie to see the last of the Mekong Irrawaddy dolphins as they are sadly critically endangered. Enjoy a bike ride in Koh Trong along the beautiful, unspoilt land, or head towards Chi Phat for a jungle trek as part of a homestay. Homestays are a fantastic way to see how average villagers live and of course, make new friends!
There are so many reasons to visit Burma, especially if you have children. They will love exploring the interior of the monuments to spot the murals, and using a pony cart to get around! Take part in the trek from Kalaw to Inle to see how other people live and jump on the boat ride across the lake at the end. This is a great holiday to enforce no screens as the children will be having too much fun to worry about the internet!
No matter how long you stay in Singapore, you won’t get bored as there is just so much to see and do! It’s an explosion of colour, and there are so many places to shop, eat and be entertained. The Science Centre is a fun way to make sure they are working their brains without realising and the Night Safari is a firm favourite with children.
The town of Luang Prabang will tick the boxes of the whole family, as the adults can enjoy a latte in a lovely cafe, while the children take part in a cooking class, to learn how to make some authentic dishes! Later, enjoy a boat ride or hire bikes for some active sightseeing. For those older and a little more thrill-seeking, Vang Vieng offers tubing down the river or caving to get the adrenaline pumping!
Travelling with little ones can be pretty stressful. 25% of travellers have admitted to missing a flight in the past, and that’s without a screaming toddler in hand! That said, travelling with little ones can be incredibly rewarding. Making memories and having family time while exploring the world is amazing and hopefully, this has given you some ideas for places in Southeast Asia to put on your bucket list.
