accommodation in darwin

Best place to stay in Darwin with kids

I think Peter Pan sang "Never smile at Crocodile",  well your smiles are very much welcome when your family checks into Mantra on the Esplanade in Darwin. We had the opportunity to spend two nights at this Darwin hotel and were not disappointed. All the rooms on site are of the right size, the property is in a cracking location, and the facilities offered inside the rooms are perfect for families.

We stayed at three different properties in Darwin on our recent trip, and the Mantra on the Esplanade in Darwin would be our first pick if you are looking for accommodation in Darwin for a family holiday with kids.

Room Types for Families

Let's take a look at the different room types which are suitable for families with 3 or more people.
Best family rooms at Mantra
Room Type  Room Sleeps  Suitable
One Bed Apartment 2 Adults + 1 Child young family
Two Bed Apartment 2 Adults + 2 Children Family who like space
Three Bed Apartment 2 Adults + 4 Children Great for large families.
Penthouse 2 Adults + 2 Children  Families that want lots of space

All the rooms have kitchens which are well equipped for cooking and preparing meals. We found the fridge super handy, especially with a decent sized freezer. The kitchens were convenient for cooking and freezing items ready for our seven days' camping in the East Kimberley of WA.

There is also a fully equipped laundry in every room - washing machine and separate dryer; very handy for the kids' clothes which seem to get dirty after wearing for 5 minutes!

There are two views available from hotel rooms - city view or harbour view. Try to book a room on the harbour side; the sunsets from the balconies are fantastic.  There is also an outdoor swimming pool to cool off in after your day off.

Tips for sourcing accommodation in Darwin

Some people might think Darwin is sleepy; it's far from it. During the peak periods (dry season), accommodation in Darwin is highly sought after, with lots of visitors passing through on their way to exploring the top end of Australia. If you are a family wanting to secure a reasonable rate during the peak periods, do not leave it until the last moment as you might be disappointed - availability is limited and prices will be higher.  We recommend that you always book early and look out for specials on offer that Mantra Hotels run throughout the year. If you are looking into any of Mantra Hotels in Darwin make sure you sign up to the Mantra Plus Members program to get more benefits on your stay.
