So you want to go on a family ski vacation with the kids. But, you have never managed to find the time or right ski resort for your family which offers everything you want and need to find your perfect ski topia holiday.
Two of biggest things that prevent us from getting away with the family on vacations is the overall cost of a family holiday with kids, then locating the right ski resort for everyone needs.
There are a couple of ways to find ski topia one is planning and working out a budget for your family ski holiday. We have created a quick and easy google doc sheet that can help plan out the budget and work on allocating the costs that go into skiing. Once you have a budget in mind you can begin to start monitoring ski resorts for the latest ski deals.
Ski topia: definition, from the key term utopia (Greek ou, not), discovering a ski resort in which everything is perfect from snow, experiences and accommodation.
The second is then working out which ski resort you want to have your ski vacation. We have listed some of our favourite ski resorts below for families that cater for beginners to advance skiers in your family. Things to consider when picking a ski resort, if you are booking well in advance of the ski season, you want to consider going for height look for ski resorts that offers high elevation we like to pick a resort that is above 1500m and also has good snow making facilities so you can be guaranteed some snow. The last thing you want is a destination that has no snow, would be like a pub with no beer!
The big ski operators will often have great ski deals early on in the season. The best time to book is when you can afford to book. If you know you are going to be visiting during school breaks and holidays you may want to ensure you book early to lock in your ski accommodation within your resort.
An all inclusive ski holiday offers everything, you will find your find ski packages that include transport to resorts, your accommodation, all meals, lift tickets and ski equipment. Club Med are leaders in offering the all inclusive ski holiday experience. They will often have some exceptional sales 6-8months before ski season opening.
A half board ski vacation package is one that will offer your family accommodation in a popular ski resort, with breakfast and an evening meal. These type of holidays are popular in Europe where you will share a ski chalet with other people who have booked on the same holiday. These type of holidays will tend to operate on weekly basis Arrive on Saturday Afternoons, then depart the following Saturday morning. If you can get a group of friends and family, you can easily book out your chalet which can make for a fun family ski holiday.
The next best way to go about having a cheap family ski vacation is to self-cater. This is where you are responsible for everything when it comes to organising and booking a ski vacation. To get the most of a self-catered ski holiday is that you need to be super organised, and have realistic expectations on reality. You will be cooking and cleaning, arranging your ski passes, getting yourself onto the mountain. Self Catering is not something that I would recommend for families that are going on their first ski holiday; it will crush everyone and ruin the utopia feeling!
One the biggest things I say to people is when they are thinking about skiing with kids is be prepared for tantrums, tired children, forgetting items in the locker room than having to take everything off and go back to your room to get the gloves your kids forgot all this stuff happens! Though if you can break the negative aspects, the positives of skiing are incredible, it can be an incredible confidence booster for children and adults.
