You know the tourist shots with white sandy beaches, and warm tropical waters and know one around! Well, that is the Solomon Islands. If you are adventurous family and enjoy the outdoors, and the kids love exploring and playing in and around the water, well the Solomon Islands just might be your perfect family escape.
If you think your family is looking for a Robin Crusoe holiday experience filled with adventures such as fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing, discovering lush forest and stumbling over WWII relics, then the Solomon Islands is your destination.
Where is the best place to stay in Solomon Islands to tick off a real family holiday experience? Our first pick and recommendation would be spending time at Uepi Island Resort which is located on Marovo Lagoon the world's longest saltwater lagoon.
The best time to visit the Solomon Islands is from April to November, with the drier period being May to October. So try and pick school holiday break that would fit within this time. If you can't make the school holiday periods work, honestly a trip to Uepi and the Solomons is educational so I nice letter to the school, and I would think you should get a leave pass!
The more time, the better, don't expect to see great travel deals and special like you do for a major tourist destination like Fiji and Hawaii. Accommodation can be limited once you leave the capital of Honiara during the peak times. If you need accommodation in Honiara for your family, I can recommend the Coral Sea Resort this is where we stayed for one night before we departed to the islands with Solomon Airlines.
Uepi Island Resort is on the largest lagoon in the world and fringed with sandy beaches with clear lagoon waters full of tropical marine life. The resort nestles among cultivated tropical gardens, surrounded by jungle which is accessible via walking paths.
There are six garden bungalows, which are spaced around the garden for privacy. All the accommodation has private facilities. The maximum number this resort caters for is 32. However, 20 guests is considered a crowd, so its usually nice a quite!
The best way to book accommodation at Uepi Island Resort is via your travel agent, or you can send a direct booking request to the island via their website. Their website is an excellent resource before visiting the island packed with lots of great information on what to expect and the type of activities and things you can do on the island.
If you like your family holidays to be sitting by a pool, ordering cocktails and not hearing the kids. Well, I honestly don't think Uepi should be your pick. However, if you love holidays that provide a sense of adventure and your family love the water. You will be welcomed at Uepi Island Resort by your hosts and the community that support the resort.
